Artwork > BITTERSWEET REFRAINS series

This series originated from a Studio Painting class: having an extra half-hour, I started scratching wet paint off a dried pre-painted background. The result: rows of branch silhouettes shooting into the sky.

The globes floating in space were an afterthought, which have since taken precedence over the branches. A constant icon from my subconscious, the globes take on special meanings, of hopes and fears, serenity and anxiety, aspirations and disappointments.

The flatness of the tree background (which resembles the printmaking process) juxtaposes with the three-dimensional globes.

I title each painting with musical references, since music has played an indelible role in my life
